When the Ground Beneath You Shakes
Scripture
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”
Psalm 56:3-4Reflection
There is a kind of honesty in this verse that we rarely talk about. David does not say, "I am never afraid." He says, "When I am afraid." He starts with the reality of fear, and then he makes a choice. Trust is not the absence of fear. It is what you do with the fear once it arrives.
Most of us were taught, somewhere along the way, that strong faith means you should not feel afraid. That doubt is the opposite of belief. But that is not what Scripture teaches. The Bible is full of people who trembled and still moved forward. Moses stood before Pharaoh with shaking hands. Gideon asked for a sign, twice. Elijah, after his greatest victory, ran for his life and hid in a cave. And yet God did not reject any of them for being afraid. He met them in the middle of it.
You may be carrying something right now that makes the future feel uncertain. Maybe it is a decision that has no clear answer, a relationship that feels unstable, or a season where nothing seems to be moving. Fear is not a sign that your faith is broken. It is an invitation to lean harder into the One who holds everything together. David did not wait until the fear passed to trust God. He trusted God while the fear was still loud.
Today, you do not need to pretend that everything is fine. You just need to know where to place your weight. Put it on Him. He has never once dropped someone who leaned on Him.
Prayer
“Father, I come to You honestly. I am afraid. I do not have all the answers, and the uncertainty feels heavy. But I choose to trust You, not because the fear is gone, but because You have never failed me. Hold me steady today. Remind me that Your faithfulness is bigger than anything I face.”
