What God Put in Your Heart

Before Nehemiah told a single soul his plan, before he presented it to the king, before he ever picked up a tool, he went out at night to look at the broken walls by himself. Nobody knew yet. There was no announcement, no committee meeting, no group chat. Just a man, a burden he could not shake, and a quiet ride around the rubble to see what he was actually dealing with.

Most of us want our calling to arrive already confirmed. We want the sign, the green light, the moment where everyone around us nods and says yes, that is exactly what you should do with your life. But purpose rarely works that way. Usually it starts as something private, almost embarrassing, a weight you carry that you are not even sure how to explain yet. You care about something other people walk past. You notice a need that does not seem to bother anyone else. That noticing is not random.

Think about what it must have felt like for Nehemiah in that in between season, after God had put Jerusalem on his heart but before he had done anything visible about it. He could have doubted himself. He could have decided the feeling would pass. Instead he went and looked closely at the wreckage, alone, before asking anyone to believe in the vision with him. Sometimes your calling needs that same kind of unglamorous inspection first: sitting with the problem, learning its shape, letting it cost you something in private before it ever becomes a plan you say out loud.

If you are in a season where you sense there is something you are supposed to do with your life but nothing about it looks impressive yet, you are in good company. God is not waiting for you to have the whole thing figured out or approved. He is waiting for you to keep walking the wall at night, paying attention, staying honest about what breaks your heart. The task he is forming in you is real even before anyone else can see it.
