He Makes Everything New

Apr 12, 2026 · Sunday

Scripture

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new.'”

Revelation 21:4–5

Reflection

This is where Revelation ends up. Not with fire and judgment as the final word, but with this, a God who sits down next to His people and personally wipes the tears from their faces. The imagery is extraordinarily tender for a book that contains so much intensity. And it is the point the whole vision has been building toward.

For young people living in the middle of a broken world, this vision is not an escape hatch. It is a compass. It tells you what is coming so you can live now in light of it. When you see suffering that has no earthly solution, wars that don't end, injustice that persists, people in power who seem to face no consequences. Revelation does not ask you to be okay with it. It tells you that God is not okay with it either, that He is moving toward a moment when every wrong will be addressed and every tear will be answered.

The phrase "I am making everything new" is present tense in the original Greek. Not "I will make", "I am making." The renewal has already begun. Every act of justice, every moment of genuine love, every time someone chooses integrity over self-interest, every prayer offered in a broken world, these are not futile gestures. They are participation in something God is already doing.

So how should a young person live in a world like this? With grief that is honest and hope that is unshakeable. With compassion for those who are suffering and clarity about who is ultimately in charge. With the willingness to be faithful in the present, because the present matters, and with the freedom that comes from knowing the final chapter has already been written.

You are not here to save the world. Jesus already did that. You are here to be faithful witnesses to the world that is coming, in the middle of the world that is passing away.

Prayer

“Lord, I hold onto this promise today. The suffering I see around me is real, and it grieves You as it grieves me. But You are not finished. You are making things new, even now, even here, even in the most broken places. Give me the kind of hope that doesn't pretend everything is fine, but that refuses to give the last word to darkness. Help me to live as someone who knows how this ends.”
